Biography

Antinea Boletsi

The aim of art is to represent not the outward appearance

of things but their inward significance.

Aristotle

Antinea’s world is simple, ordinary. Her artistic view is contemporary, incisive, in constant search of the essential with a sense of nostalgia for the past. Her paintings follow the rules of figurative art. They showcase beauty with the naivety and the intact talent of a child, but also with the sharp eye of a passionate observer.

Antinea is a true cosmopolitan. She studied in the U.S.A. and France. She is based both in the U.K. and Greece. She travels extensively. Her landscapes of Olympia, Greece or the English countryside reveal an artist who feels Nature and discovers its beauties in every little detail with childlike enthusiasm and an impressionistic eye. Her still lifes represent the “private life” of everyday objects, not to reveal their secrets, but to remind us of the fact that, beyond their functional value, they fulfill everyone’s need for human connection.

The essence of her objects can be traced in every colour, shadow and shape. Deeply fascinated by them, Antinea strives to capture their inner world. Interestingly, although her artworks are charged with emotion, they reveal a balanced simplicity. The viewer dives into her paintings and discovers a world of utopic feminine fantasy.
